Yes, I grew up in the 80s. It was a great time! Oh to be a kid again. No worries, just fun days of playing with my friends, cousins, siblings and all my toys. I have to admit between my sister and I we had lots! Some of my favorites were
My closet was full of Barbies! I remember having so many Barbies and accessories that by the time I took everything out, I didn’t want to play anymore. I especially loved my Barbie Town Home. My Easy Bake Oven was my pastime with my cousins. Everytime my cousins came over or spent the night we would make cakes in my Easy Bake Oven. I remember having a mini wicker table in the corner of our dining room where we’d all sit and play with the oven. Cabbage Patch Kids were the craze while I was growing up. I remember begging my Mom to buy me one when they first came out. She went to multiple stores trying to find one and had one heck of a time. I finally got one and then my Little Sister wanted one too. Every birthday and Christmas my Mom would gift me something for my “baby”. I had a boy and a girl. My boy was named Eric, after what I wanted my baby brother to be named…except I didn’t have a baby brother. My Mom ended up having a baby girl! I don’t even remember my girl’s Cabbage Patch Kids name. I just remember her having brown hair and I used to want to braid her hair all the time. My Mom bought us everything for these babies. Diapers, clothes, accessories, a stroller…even a playpen! Strawberry Shortcake Dolls reminds me of the days spent with my cousins. One of my cousins collected these dolls and had them all and every accessory for them. We would play them at her house all the time and I envied her for having them all, as she always envied me having all the Barbies. The fun little characters with the smell of different fruits made the Strawberry Shortcake Dolls so cool and cute to play with. The Fashion Plates were loved by all girls. I remember thinking I’d become a fashion designer of some kind when I used to play with this. That didn’t last long because I never was into fashion the way some girls are now. But it was fun to color and design my own outfit and have it on paper.
I love seeing how many toys of my days growing up are now popular among kids these days too. Many have been revamped and made for today’s world but just to see them gives me the nostalgic feel.
