Sometimes you just don’t want to go out to get your favorite treat. I had to learn how to make my own Boba drink at home. From time to time my boys and I crave boba. If you haven’t heard of boba (or bubble tea or tapioca pearls)…where have you been? Boba has always been a family treat for my kids and I. It’s not everyone’s favorite. I know some people who just can’t deal with the texture of the tapioca pearls. It may be an acquired taste. But if you don’t like texture, it may not be for your.
You can make any flavor with these boba drinks. You can put boba in smoothies, ice coffee, milk teas or juice.
The recipe to make your own boba at home
1/4 cup of tapioca pearls
For every 1/4 cup, Boil 2 cups of water
Boba will float when it is ready. Remove from heat. Drizzle honey on hot boba. Use for sweetness, enough to your liking.
As for the drink, you can add Boba to any drink you’d like. I like doing milk teas, iced coffee and smoothies. In this photos I made a mango smoothie.
How to make a Mango Smoothie
- Use 1 banana *(frozen works best)
- 1/2 cup of mangoes *(frozen works best)
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/2 cup yogurt
*If you don’t use frozen fruits, add a 1/2 cup of ice.
Blend til you get a nice consistency. Place 1/4 cup of boba into the bottom of your glass. Fill with your fresh smoothie or drink of choice.
The most important thing about drinking boba at home is having a BOBA straw! You can order them online on Amazon or get at any Asian market. Witha Boba straw, you’ll be out of breath trying to suck it through your regular straw.
